What is a Consultant ?

Can I say , ” I am a Medical Consultant ? = or, could I say I am a Dental Consultant, when in fact I have no knowledge of either.
Could I say I am a Legal Consultant , Gerontology Consultant when I have no written confirmation , yet have some knowledge on the subjects. = How do you define a Consultant.?

A consultant (from the Latin consultus meaning “legal expert”) is a professional who provides expert advice in a particular domain or area of expertise such as accountancy, technology, the law, human resources, marketing, medicine, finance, public affairs, communication, or what knowledge they posses.

Be careful of how you say it. There are some fields, where there are no standards, no licensing requirements, you may bluff your way out. In other fields, you may be guilty of misrepresentation such as a legal consultant or medical consultant, free country or otherwise.

In the business world, management consultant is someone who borrows the client’s watch and tell him what time it is. How’s that for a definition? It is truer that you think. I was one of them for many years.
