Marketing Director Ideas?

I am running for the marketing director position in a college organization I belong to. As a candidate, I need to have a presentation and “new ideas” to share with the voters in order to win the popular vote. So, I need some ideas for marketing and advertizing our organization to the other students and community as well as ideas for marketing and advertizing the events we hold. I have some ideas and I looked up some more online but they all were the same. Does anyone have any interesting or different ideas on advertizing besides the obvious “put up posters and fliers all over campus” deal?
Thank you.

Start your own community/niche newspaper that is appropriate for you. If you do it right, you can even make a profit on the newspaper and at the same time advertise, build name recognition, and establish yourself as an expert in a particular field.

Sell ad space in the newspaper to other non-competing businesses and you can pay for the newspaper and possibly make a profit as well. Distribute to the local community in restaurants, Dr’s offices, libraries, schools, etc. Make sure you have good content and articles that appeal, inform, and help.

I do this for a local church and it has done wonders. I found a lot of helpful information and even pricing at http://www.makemynewspaper.com. A newspaper from this company can be less expensive than a flyer!

    Hope this helps!

Absolutely! I hate to say so, but those ideas of posters and fliers are BO-RING! (As you already alluded to, so I know you agree). To win the votes of your peers you want “fresh” approaches to marketing that are in line with the times. So to that I’d say, GO MOBILE! lol! I can’t say it enough to people, sometimes I feel like shouting it from a rooftop that if you want to reach people you have to go where they are and that means executing a well-crafter mobile marketing campaign.

If your organization partners with a mobile marketing company that has all the cool features like QR Codes and Text & Win, SMS Voting & Contests, along with the text alerts themselves then you’ll have all you need to get really creative with the campaign. For example, you can use QR Codes and place them in various parts of campus for students to scan and maybe can either link back to your organization’s website/mobile site or allow more information to pop up in a message about the next event coming up. You can also generate a keyword and along with the shortcode (provided by your mobile marketing provider) and place it all over campus, or when people attend your events have custom signs that advertise your keyword so people can ‘opt-in’ to your subscriber list. Once you have people’s cell phone numbers you have captured valuable information! You can send them text alerts later for what’s the latest with your organization which creates a ‘base’ or loyal group of people who will always want to be in the loop (the important thing to remember with mobile marketing is that when people opt-in it’s because they WANT to keep in contact with your organization). Soon you’ll have not only the ‘regulars’ who attend your events and want to know more, but you’ll generate all sorts of third-party interests from people who happen to be standing near the person you’re texting, because they’re highly likely to talk about the text they just received with a friend. The other thing is, once you have a base of subscribers, aka loyal event goers you’ll also be able to use the other mobile marketing features like the aformentioned Voting/Polling, Contests and Sweepstakes all via SMS Text to keep people really engaged and feeling like they’re an active part of your organization.

I hope this helps you and good luck!
