Are there any environmental consultants out there? Or know about the field?

I want to switch my major to Environmental Economics and was looking into what careers you can do with a BS with that and I came across Environmental Consulting. What is the job market like for this field? How is the salary? Any info will help

The field covers a wide range of activities. I preferred to market myself as an ecologist or ecological consultant but would occasionally find myself being asked to write a white paper on garbage collection and disposal or some such.

Salaries are good, if you can get on salary (making you an employee, not a consultant) but you need a large number of clients in order to keep working as a consultant. I suspect that, barring the election of a larger than usual number of idiots to congress and the presidency, the field will continue to grow.

In my experience an Environmental Consultant is a person with env. quals who has started their own business and calls themselves a consultant. But there are some big companies out there with rich mining or construction clients. Prepare to sell your soul thou, as they may be paying you tell a community of people that something which is bad for the environment is actually good for them.
